Apple to Release New Version of Logic?

Rumors are circulating on several websites that Apple may be launching a new version of their Logic DAW software at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8th through the 12th. It certainly seems feasible since the last version was released back in the fall of 2007.

FEASIBLE???

::ahem::

::calm blue ocean::

How about Apple releases a 0.1 upgrade to Logic 8? Maybe with som... bug fixes? That would be awesome. Haven't had a 0.01 in more than a year.

Don't get me wrong. I love Apple. I love Logic. But the idea that Logic 8 was a beta test for Logic 9? That makes me more than a little crankity.

Love your site Tom.

Thanks, Joel. I agree that I wish they were a little more regular with their updates. Granted, I have very few problems with Logic, but there are a few bugs that are long overdue to get fixed.

I haven't seen the rumors, but this would be a version 9 release, correct? I'm currently just using Logic 8 Express, so perhaps I'll hold out to get the full version until a new release comes out.

Great picture! Had to think about it for a few seconds before I recognized the connection :-)

Derek - My guess is it would be version 9. They generally don't make big announcements for .x updates, but who knows? Guess we'll just have to wait til June.

Employing Vulcanesque Logic:

* Why would Apple release an update to Logic when Summer NAMM is 5-6 weeks directly after that?

* Logic is *clearly* one of the apps that will be able to take full advantage of the native 64 bit OS in Snow Leopard. While I *am* convinced that there will be a 9.x version of Logic, it doesn't make sense it would arrive prior to 10.6's release.

Kirk - Apple tends to like to announce things on their own terms. I don't believe they even usually attend NAMM. Instead, they prefer to make big announcements at their own events.

The second point is a good one, but I guess time will tell!

Also, as I noted in an earlier post, Propellerheads is allegedly going to introduce a new piece of software (possibly a DAW) this weekend... also before summer NAMM.
