The Prophet 08 I understand. Oberheim's "Son Of Four Voice," I understand. Even a Buchla has its worth. This, I don't get at all. Ok, so it is a self contained unit that does 36-bit processing (yay it goes to eleven). Yes it has a variety of ins and outs, it docks with an iPod, has Fatar controller, light saber, etc. Ok cool, but where's the innovation? Where's the edge/advantage? At first glance, I don't see the point of this.

At $15k+ It just seems like pure boutique fetishism with no advantage other than bragging rights. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a cool nu-retro product, but that's all it is. A product capitalizing on the wave of "then was better". That wave has crested and soon to fall. This proves it. For a company that made such a mark on music technology, is it strange to hope that they would not be content to rest on their laurels?

They're apparently only making 100, so you could be right about this being mostly for collectors...
